Living Labs

Living Ecosystems of Science, Innovation & Social Transformation

Where Science, People & Territories Co-create the Future.

Co-creating Regenerative Solutions

A Living Lab is a dynamic ecosystem for research, innovation, and co-creation that brings together people, communities, researchers, universities, governments, businesses, and organizations to transform social, environmental, and territorial challenges into innovative and sustainable solutions. Through a continuous cycle of immersion and listening, research, collaboration, prototyping, experimentation, and learning, diverse forms of knowledge, experience, and perspective come together to generate evidence, test new approaches, and develop solutions in real-world contexts. Initiatives with the greatest potential can then move forward into incubation, technical and financial structuring, resource mobilization, partnership building, and scaling, creating the conditions to expand their impact and replicability. Institutional collaboration also helps connect the solutions developed within the Living Lab to programs, investments, and public policies. In this way, Living Labs transform territories into living environments for learning and innovation, where science, collective intelligence, resources, and the capacity to act come together to co-create solutions and shape more sustainable futures.

Inside maker Living Lab

The Inside Maker Living Lab builds on the experience of the Inside Maker for Kids methodology, developed and implemented over the past three years across diverse educational and territorial contexts in Brazil, expanding it into an ecosystem of research, social innovation, and co-creation that brings together children, educators, researchers, communities, universities, governments, and organizations.

Its journey across territories such as the Federal District, Goiás, Mato Grosso do Sul, Piauí, and Amazonas — including experiences in the Upper Rio Negro region, in São Gabriel da Cachoeira — demonstrates the methodology’s ability to engage with diverse realities, cultures, and knowledge systems.

Within the Living Lab, this experience evolves into structured cycles of awareness, investigation, collaboration, and experimentation, in which children participate as active agents alongside other stakeholders in the territory. Together, they investigate real-world challenges, generate knowledge, co-create ideas, and test solutions — bringing children’s perspectives and creativity into the collective process of shaping more sustainable futures.
